Founded in 2021, Belk Labs started as the natural collaboration of two brothers who grew up building and creating together.
Matthew Belknap
Hailing from the woods of rural Ohio, Matthew moved to Philadelphia in 2004. Since earning a BFA in photography from the Cleveland Institute of Art, he has worked 13 years in commercial photography and digital imaging before changing careers and becoming a hair stylist. All the while working on his personal artwork spanning media from serigraphy, fashion design, furniture making, sculpture, music production, installation art and jewelry making. In 2012 Matthew started rowing on the Schuylkill River which some how sparked a passion for engineering. He spends much of his time split between the machine shop and his electronics workbench.
Timothy Belknap
Timothy Belknap is a Philadelphia based artist, curator and director of the Icebox Project Space. His own work has been exhibited in both Philadelphia and New York City, garnering coverage in ArtNews, Title Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer and WHYY, among others. Timothy received a BA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an MFA in sculpture from Tyler School of Art.
